When I got my beautiful new condo at Adagio 60, I immediately started looking for decorations which would match its style and make it even more beautiful. This was no easy task. While I got many things, it just seemed like I had missed something, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

I ended up asking my uncle’s wife for advice. She had gone through the same experience when she and my uncle got married and moved to a new place recently, so I was hoping she could give me some tips.

When I told her my problem, she totally understood what was going through my mind. She said what had made her whole condo come together was the window treatments. She said that her designer helped her realize how much design influence windows have in a room.   Windows are not simply functional parts of a building - they can make or break the mood of your home.

I like the view from my place, so I had not bothered to think too much about curtains. .  And the condo itself is beautiful. I wanted something that would really make the whole place seem more grand and regal.

So she and I started looking for some good quality fabrics for the curtains. Some of the good sources we found were Michael Textiles, Schumacher Fabrics and Samuels & Sons. I found out about Samuel & Sons when I was reading about how the Obama family was decorating the White House.

The designer my uncle and his wife had chosen to work with said he loves Samuel & Sons because they have the best fabrics available. So I thought, “What could be better than getting my fabrics from the same place the President is getting them?”  I was not disappointed.  The collection there was just marvelous. They have every kind of fabric you could imagine.

The designer also recommended tiebacks.  Tiebacks are a great touch to add to curtains because they really add character to them.  And because I sometimes like to sleep after noon, I like having darkness in my bedroom.  I got the hotel style blackout curtains for my bedrooms. These curtains block the light almost completely which allows me to go to sleep whenever I want.

After adding the curtains, the place immediately looked different.   A design trick my uncle’s wife learned from the designer was installing curtains that touched the floor. This made my windows look large, which gave all the rooms a more grand and regal look.

My place looked luxurious and it was all because of the curtains.
